Site construction and progress

Site construction and progress
Phase I of my site, acbgallery.com, has occurred over a 6 month period.

My talented partner in crime, Jeff Bernier and myself have worked on this very hard - part time, during weekends and nights and any free time we get.

The beauty of this project is that since the beginning we have not met face to face once yet and haven't talked once on the phone. Everything has been accomplished online, via e-mail correspondence and ftp.

Designer and owner of website - Aruna C Bernier
Responsibilities - Front-end design
Me as the designer had full creative freedom to design my site to my satisfaction. I have created the whole layout and design, conceptualization, text and content creation and organization, navigation, menu items, right hand navigation, breadcrumb, logo and all image creation, placement, and font color.

Programmer/developer/custom database designer - Jeff Bernier
Responsibilities - Backend design
In one sentence, Jeff has brought my site design to life. He made the site possible exactly the way I wanted and without compromising any aspect of my initial design creation, start to finish.

He did all the development and implementation of the backend technologies using, HTML, DHTML, CSS, JavaScript and QuickTime technologies are involved in the site construction. All coding was done by hand instead of using a GUI development tool.

Phase I of the site - Complete

HTML, DHTML, CSS, JavaScript and QuickTime technologies are involved in the site construction. All coding was done by hand instead of using a GUI development tool.

Phase 2 of the site - Coming Soon

  • Will include all of the above plus a database and a server side scripting language.
  • Thumbnail images will have captions and also description pages added that currently don't exist in some sections.
  • More images will be added and different quotes will automatically rotate on different pages of the site.

  • Page weight / download time consideration
  • Database driven site maintenance
  • Cross browser compatibility consideration
  • Usability testing

  • Multimedia
  • Good communication and correspondence
  • Not to delete each other's work as we progressed and edited pages with plans for a concurrent version system for the next phase

Guard well your spare moments. They are like uncut diamonds. Discard them and their value will never be known. Improve them and they will become the brightest gems in a useful life.

"I find the great thing in this world is not so much where we stand, as in what direction we are moving: To reach the port of heaven, we must sail sometimes with the wind and sometimes against it, but we must sail, and not drift, nor lie at anchor."

Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr.
